About Rolath Cherry Farm
Nestled in the central historical and cultural heritage district of Castelo Branco, you will find a small village called Caria. This little historic village has some impressive primitive houses which date back to before the 15th century, a baroque church, several bridges and chapels which will take you back in time. About 9km’s from Caria you will find the most quaint and beautiful historical town of Belmonte which dates to the beginning of the 12th century and within another 15 km northeast of Belmonte is the Serra de Estrela Mountain range, a fascinating centre for traditional Portuguese handicrafts, cheese, cured meats, wine and the skiing in the height of winter.
Belmonte is also about 20 km from another historical village: Sortelha, a tiny village which has a story that can be traced back to early Portuguese times.
Despite the passing of centuries, Sortelha has remained virtually unchanged from the Renaissance era to the present day, preserving its authentic character and unique charm. It’s no wonder that Robert Hayworth, on his first visit to this enchanting area with his wife, was struck by the hidden wish in his heart that was brought to life by the magic of Sortelha. And so, Rolath Lda was born, inspired by the incredible beauty and rich history of this hidden gem in Portugal, overlooking agricultural fields and cherry farms.
Robert Hayworth’s love for farming runs deep in his veins, and it was this very passion that led him to invest in his own family farm. With a vision to create a world-class cherry farm, Robert was driven by his unwavering belief in producing the finest products in an environmentally friendly way and delivering only the very best cherries to the world.
With the support of his wife, Paula and children, Robert set out to make his dream a reality. Together, they envisioned an environmentally conscious, self-sufficient cherry farm that would prioritize a well-balanced, sustainable ecosystem, to produce cherries of unparalleled quality. This dream wasn’t just for their generation, but for generations to come, as they were committed to ensuring a sustainable future for all.
At Rolath, family is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’re proud to have handed over the reins to our CEO, Bruce Hayworth, Robert’s youngest son. Bruce is committed to upholding the values and principles that have made our business a success, and he’s passionate about introducing new, eco-friendly farming initiatives that reflect our commitment to sustainability. With Rolath, Bruce is fulfilling a lifelong dream to create a company that stands for something, a business that operates with the utmost integrity and always maintains the highest standards.
Today, the Hayworth family’s cherry farm stands tall as a testament to their unwavering dedication to their vision. Each cherry is grown with love and care, in harmony with nature and the environment. The farming industry is ever evolving, and we are dedicated to staying ahead of the curve, managing our farms with utmost care and attention to detail.
At Rolath, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence, and we spare no effort in ensuring that our products are of the best quality.
Constantly striving to innovate and evolve, and our commitment to sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. That’s why we’ve recently planted 1200 new trees, using the cutting-edge UFO (Upright Fruiting Offshoot) system.
This innovative method allows for more sunlight and better access for bees to the heart of the plant, resulting in cherries that are not only delicious but also created by nature. We’ve carefully selected three cherry varieties – Pacific Red, Frisco, and Royal Helen – to grow using this method, ensuring that every cherry is bursting with flavour and nutrients.
At Rolath, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable and eco-friendly future for all. We understand the importance of reducing waste, conserving water, and minimizing our carbon footprint. That’s why we have made a commitment to implement sustainable practices throughout our entire business, from farming to packaging and delivery.
Our approach to regenerative agriculture, where we use the latest eco-friendly initiatives to grow our cherries. By working in harmony with nature, we are able to create a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
